Machined in Warren, Maine from ductile iron that shrugs off drops which would crack a vintage plane, the No. 4 is the smoother the rest of the market is measured against. The sole is ground flat to within half a thousandth of an inch, the bronze cap locks the thick A2 iron dead still, and the cherry tote is shaped for a full day of work.

Sharpen it once, set the frog, and it leaves glass surfaces straight off the iron. Your grandkids will fight over it.
